About New Hope
School is just a fact of life….for most kids. Yet today, in 2009, there are still more than 75 million children (6 -11 years old) who are too poor to go to school – the majority of these kids live in Sub-Sahara Africa. Education for all children, but especially for girls, is critically linked to poverty reduction, health, community development and prevention of child exploitation.

New Hope Benin’s scholarships give 225 primary school children and 120 secondary school students the opportunity to attend school. More than just scholarships, the program provides an essential protection from child slavery, especially important since many of these children are orphans or from single parent homes. Before New Hope’s assistance, the children were unable to attend school, making them vulnerable to exploitation or slavery.

Now, through the support and supervision of local New Hope staff, each child has all the books and supplies they need for safety and success in school. Additionally, the staff frequently visits them in their homes to encourage them to stay in school. Over the five years of the project 97% have remained enrolled and are progressing towards a hopeful future.
